Definition: Special Education Programs are provided through public schools and are required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Special Education Programs are provided to children with learning disabilities and other types of disabilities who meet diagnostic criteria for the program. Diagnosis is based on formal evaluation and assessment.
Qualifying students are provided with individual education programs that include specially designed instruction to meet their individual needs.
