Teach Self-Esteem - Fun Activities to Teach Self-Esteem

Self-Esteem is a Skill Your Child Can Learn

By , About.com Guide

Teaching self-esteem is important for any child, and it is especially important for children with learning disabilities. These easy activities can help your child begin to identify his strengths, understand his values, and explore his character. Recognizing these qualities is an important first step in developing and strengthening self-esteem.
  1. Help your child learn to recognize qualities in himself and others by playing Catch the Compliment.
  2. Help your child develop a list of personal goals to help her think about her personal values and character.
  3. Help your child reflect on things he learned about himself in the activities above. Have him create his own personal coat-of-arms to display in his room, on the refrigerator, or by the door so he is reminded of it on his way out. Use this template to get started. Have your child use markers, glitter, ribbon, pictures, or other craft materials to decorate his symbol. Help her design the shield so it reflects who she is by using pictures and words.
