Love is easy to demonstrate with these tips and ideas to show your learning disabled child you care.

1. Show Your Love by Celebrating Your Child's Achievement

Has your child accomplished something that inspired you, made you happy, or made you proud? Of course he has! I want to hear about those terrific stories, see those wonderful pieces of refrigerator art, and more. Share your child's accomplishments and celebrations here. Your child's story and any photos you share will be posted here on About.com! It is a great way to show your child you love him and are proud of his achievements.

2. Show Your Love by Sharing Your Time

There's no better way to show your learning disabled child you love her than by sharing your time. Need ideas for fun things to do together? Family crafts, board games, and hobbies are great ways to share time, build memories, and work on the bond of love between parent and child.

3. Show Your Love by Supporting Her Activities

Your child may never admit he likes it when you're there watching his activities like sports, but he'll notice and appreciate it.  Want to show a little more love?  Take photos of him and his friends, and email them to his friends' parents.  His friends and their parents will appreciate the gesture.  Scoring points with the friends is another sure fire way to show your child your love.

4. Show Your Love by Saying You Care

While your child may roll her eyes if you say you love her, you can tell her in ways that are less direct but say the same thing.  Try phrases like:

  • I appreciate you.
  • Tell me about your day.
  • It's good to be home with you.
  • You're the joy in my life.
  • I'm glad you're my son.
  • You're an awesome daughter.

5. Be a Supportive Study Partner

One of the most important things you can do to show your love for your child is to be a supportive study partner.  Recognize that studying and homework will always be a struggle for your child and that it is normal for him to sometimes be less than motivated.  Be a firm and motivating coach rather than a punishing critic as you coach him through the rough times.  It takes tremendous courage for your child to face school every day knowing there's a good chance she will fail at something.  You may be the only person in her corner at times, so use your special relationship to build her up when she needs it.
