Assistive Technology Enhances Learning, Working, and Living
If you believe your child needs an assistive technology device at school, request an IEP team meeting to discuss it. In some instances, the IEP team may need more information before making the investment. They will want to determine:
- the specific skill deficits your child has that need the support of technology;
- if there is a more readily available way to serve the need; and
- if further AT evaluation is needed to determine if and what type of technology is needed.
For adults in the workplace, assistive technology can improve productivity and independence for workers with disabilities. Likewise, AT can be used by senior citizens to improve their quality of life, independence, and social interactions.
