Therapeutic Foster Care Retreat - Parents Use Creativity to Teach Self-Esteem and Family Identity

Foster parents are special. They give so much of themselves to others. This group of foster parents is unique in that they work primarily with children who have behavioral disabilities, and many also have learning disabilities. I've been fortunate to work with this group over the last five years. Listening to their stories and watching how they support each other has been a blessing. This year, they worked on building children's self-esteem through setting personal goals, choosing family mascots, and helping children create identity shields. We discussed family meetings, and creating a family banner. Take a look at some of their ideas!
