Definition: What are Related Services? Related services are support services schools are required to provide under the IDEA to students who need them to learn. Not every child who has a disability needs related services, but for those who do, the IDEA requires the services be included on the child's individual education program.

Related services commonly include:

Related services are not limited to those listed.
Also Known As: Related services may be known by other terms like educational support services, supportive services, program supports, therapeutic services, or other terms.
Examples:
The child receives speech and language therapy in addition to special education because of his central auditory processing disorder.
