Multisensory Materials -

Young children with with developmental delays or early signs of learning disabilities may benefit from multisensory teaching methods and materials. Fun putty can be used in special education programs as tactile and visual learning material to teach early math skills, concepts of size, shape, and position, and early writing skills such as letter formation.

This homemade putty is an engaging material for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and children in elementary school. This easy recipe makes a small batch of multisensory material for home or can be made in a larger batch for classrooms.

Time Required: Multisensory Materials - Make Multisensory Putty Materials in less than 10 minutes.
Here's How:
  1. Pour 1 cup of liquid glue into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add 1 cup of liquid starch to the glue, stirring well until the mixture becomes smooth. If the putty feels sticky, add small amounts of liquid starch. Mix until the putty is no longer sticky.
  3. Knead the mixture until the putty becomes rubbery.
  4. Store putty in an airtight container. Refrigerate for freshness.
Tips:
  1. Make different colors of putty by mixing powdered tempera paint to the glue before mixing in the liquid starch. Use small amounts of paint powder until the desired color is reached.
  2. Fun Putty can be used to teach concepts such as size, position, shape, number concepts, and fractions.
What You Need:
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Mixing Spoon
  • A 2-Cup Storage Container with Airtight Lid
  • 1 Cup Liquid Glue (Such as Elmer's School Glue)
  • 1 Cup Liquid Starch
