What to Do When There is Just Too Much to Do

Group A: People in this group may experience stress as the result of difficulty with planning and organization. They are most likely to benefit from personal management techniques such as time management, values clarification, role identification, and prioritization.

Learn to use a planner along with your children. Using basic planning tools such as calendars and task lists is especially helpful in reducing the stress that comes from being overwhelmed by multiple responsibilities. Many parents find that once they have set specific times to complete tasks, they can stop worrying about them and focus on what they need to do in the present. The same can be true for children.

Most people can benefit from the self-exploration that is necessary for effective planning. Identifying their own goals, values, and needs is an important part of any stress management plan. With those priorities determined, the more basic aspects of time management, such as scheduling, are simplified. Personal effectiveness is increased. With plans in place to manage the most important responsibilities, stress is substantially reduced. Naturally, this activity is likely to lead to lifestyle changes that may at first seem daunting but will benefit your overall health and well-being.

Are you ready to work on your stress management plan? If you're not quite ready, you may want to read the suggestions for Group B and Group C. You may find these suggestions helpful in developing your plan:
