Class Action - What Is a Class Action in Special Education Dispute Resolution?

Definition: Class Action: A formal complaint, hearing or lawsuit filed against a school district or public agency on behalf of a group of people with learning disabilities and other types of disabilities as defined under the [link url=http://learningdisabilities.about.com/od/whatisld/a/whatissld.htm]Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). alleging the district discriminated against the group and possibly others similarly situated students.

Examples:
Class actions in special education are filed by one or more people concerned with issues surrounding a group of people with disabilities. A formal complaint alleging a school district failed to appropriately serve all learning disabled students in an alternative program would be a class action complaint.
