1. Infant and Toddler Disabilities


Early intervention agencies provide services to infants and young children with disabilities such as developmental instruction, and speech, physical, and occupational therapies.

2. State Vocational Rehabilitation Agency


The Alaska Department of Rehabilitation Services helps people with disabilities live more independent lives by providing education, support, and services to assist them with becoming employed. The department works with middle schools, high schools, and higher education to help students with disabilities access appropriate supports for employment and independence such as job coaching, teaching skills, support in job placement, assistive and adaptive supports, and more.

3. Mental Health Services Agency


The Alaska Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation provides services to individuals and families dealing with mental illness, mental retardation, and substance abuse. Services include advocacy, nursing home screening, psychiatric services, deaf services, intervention, coordination of treatment, case management, and more.

5. Department of Education Special Education - Ages 3 - 21


The office of Special Education Services (SES) oversees disability and education services to children. It monitors school districts for compliance with IDEA and state special education regulations. SES handles formal complaints, due process hearings, and mediation on special education issues.

8. Children's Health Care for Low-Income Families

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)provides medical care for children from families who meet low-income guidelines. CHIP also provides health care services for children who have no insurance.

9. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services for Youth

These service agencies provide education and rehabilitation services for children and adults. Services include early intervention for infants and children, interpreter services, counseling, technology, vocational training, and education services for adults and seniors.

10. Communication and Relay Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Communication services for people who are deaf and hard of hearing provide assistive and adaptive telephone services that may involve voice-to-text or video sign language services that act as relays between people with disabilities and the hearing community. These services help clients contact important services and make social contacts as well.
