Burning the Midnight Oil on an Essay

Monday October 1, 2007
It's 11:00 pm. Do you know where your child's homework is? If you're the parent of a student with a learning disability, you've probably asked yourself this question more than you want to think about. Yes, we do stay up late and tutor way into the wee hours of the morning.

One project that is very likely to cause homework-induced red eye is the ever popular essay. I recently covered the basics on how to write a three point five paragraph essay. Several of you found it helpful, and a few requested handouts to help with the task as alternatives to the index cards in the article - - an excellent idea.

So, in answer to your requests, I've included two new graphic organizers designed to help students with important pre-writing tasks such as tapping prior knowledge, identifying areas they need to learn, and finding the information they need to develop the paper. Another organizer helps students plan the content for each paragraph. So check out these resources to help with the three point five paragraph essay.

Ms. Logsdon,

Could you contact me privately? I have some questions about my daughter, who is in 5th grade. She has CAPD and is struggling with math. Thanks.
